Art in the Park Hyatt

art_-_allNati Serre takes a break from the festivities and ponders the art world at The Hyatt's latest exhibition.

This is about an art exhibition. This is about two artists whose works are shown together; two graphic designers that felt art’s calling was too overwhelming to be ignored. This is about two talented women, who, curated by a third one, put together an art exhibition unusual in its sensibility. And this is about me being fortunate enough as to having to write about it.

As I entered the art gallery on the first floor of Park Hyatt I could see there were two sides to it; Andrea Bécares’ side on the left and Carolina Aranda’s side on the right. This was all Cecilia Romera’s doing; curator for Park Hyatt, and so in charge of choosing the artists and their use of space. Cecilia had chosen Andrea and Carolina based not only on their common background as designers, but also on her own instinct; she thought the time was right for them to show their art and to show it together.

A prolific and ambitious Bécares entitled her bit “Origin – Legacy - Origin”, so evoking a sense of evolution and continuity through the idea that every legacy is at the origin of something new. A quieter Aranda, not as experienced, but equally generous in her art, chose to work in diptychs, triptychs or individual pieces; all of which show powerful textures, but, above all, have a stories to be told.

But the exposition was not enough; at least not for me. I needed to understand a bit more. So, when I visitedandrea Andrea Bécares house, I did. Her house is filled with art. And she, she is full of art. The art through which she channels her own questionings. Through her conceptual use of colour, for instance, she manages to send an honest message across; a message about being able to defy preconceived ideas and about the urgency of being alive. Luckily for us, Andrea’s need to raise those questions to whomever is willing to listen, results in her creation of beauty. Win win.

art_-carolinaCarolina, with a more important background in design, is figuring out where her capabilities as an artist might take her. A personal search for inner peace and a much sought-for balance with herself have so far driven her production of art. As an artist she believes in the audacity of colour, a compelling element in her work. It is our job, as the eager audience, to stay vigilant so we do not miss out on the extents of her upcoming productions.

Now, do not think I am going to go on and tell you how the exhibition made me feel; it would be like spoiling a movie script ending and so, something I would never do. It is up to you to fill in the blanks.

The exhibition is on the first floor of The Park Hyatt, on Plaza Independencia, where you can view it for the next two months, open every day 9am till 9pm.
